Turner Office Lofts
The Turner Office Lofts Building was originally built in 1924 as the Meacham Park School and served the African American community in Kirkwood until it was closed in the late 1990s. The building was named after J. Milton Turner who was a former slave, abolitionist and civil rights and black education activist. Turner founded over thirty new schools for African Americans and played a historic role in addressing the inadequate educational resources for black students. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Third Man Development acquired the property in 2017 and renovated the historic structure, which had been converted to an office building and fitness facility in 2006. Following the renovation, the building is now occupied by several creative and technology companies, and retains the Turner name and artifacts from the school.
